Organized by Thumbay Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital at Thumbay Medicity, the 2-day conference brought together globally renowned experts in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation

Thumbay Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital, the biggest state-of-the-art hospital for physical therapy and rehabilitation conducted the ‘2nd International Annual Conference on Innovation in Rehabilitation Practice and Medicine’, at Thumbay Medicity, on the 13^th and 14^th of September 2019. The conference was attended by renowned international speakers and experts who shared their insights and concepts on the latest and emerging trends in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, before an audience of more than 250 people including leading surgeons, physiotherapists and other medical professionals from the region. Accredited by the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention for 15 CME Hours, the conference was organized to mark the occasion of World Physiotherapy Day.

His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Majid bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Ruler’s Court, Ajman, was the chief guest of the presentation ceremony. Dr. Thumbay Moideen, the Founder President of Thumbay Group presided.

Thumbay Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital (TPTRH), the biggest state-of-the-art rehabilitation hospital in the Middle East region located at Thumbay Medicity, has become the only hospital of its kind in Ajman to initiate the process of FIFA Medical Center of Excellence Accreditation. A MOU was signed between TPTRH and FMCE-Algiers represented respectively by Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay – Vice President of Thumbay Group’s Healthcare Division and Dr. Yacine Zerguini – Medical Director and Owner of FMCE Algiers – a fully accredited FIFA Medical Center of Excellence. The agreement was signed in the presence of Dr. Thumbay Moideen, the Founder President of Thumbay Group & Mr. Riccardo Aggujaro, Senior Manager of TPTRH, Thumbay Group.

TPTRH will have a new and unique department – Football Medicine – offering specialized services in trauma, rehab, cardiology, biology, imaging, education and research. The Football Medicine Department will also have a Second Opinion Clinic, as well as advanced Rehabilitation and ‘Return to Play’ programs, in addition to facilities for Pre-Competition Medical Assessment (PCMA) for athletes and referees.

As part of the agreement, the central facility of Thumbay Labs – the largest network of CAP-accredited diagnostic labs in the region – will apply to function as a Biological Passport Lab for Athlete Biological Passport (ABP), fully-equipped to perform tests such as dope detection, according to international standards.  Dr. Yacine said, “We are very proud to associate with TPTRH and to collaborate and establish the first high level football department in Ajman. The opportunity to have in the same place a fantastic general hospital and outstanding rehabilitation facilities and a medical university is unique in all Middle East.”

TPTRH is also an Academic Health Center of the Gulf Medical University Academic Health System, and provides clinical training to the students of Physical Therapy at Gulf Medical University’s College of Health Sciences. The agreement will introduce Diploma programs with extensive practical modules, as well as a program in ‘Football Emergency Care’, to produce sports stadium medical officers. These programs are expected to attract physical therapists seeking career opportunities as sports medical officers, especially in the field of football.

Commenting on the MoU, Dr. Thumbay Moideen said that the association with FIFA Medical Center of excellence in Algiers is beneficial to Thumbay Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital. “We are confident that TPTRH would provide the best care in sports medicine to national and international athletes and sportspersons. Furthermore, this is in line with our strategic plans for the healthcare division, aligned with the UAE’s medical tourism objectives, and we hope to bring in international players from different parts of the world to experience the quality of our treatment and the warmth of the UAE’s hospitality,” he said.

Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay said, “Sports medicine is an important area, and the hospital is well-equipped for the diagnosis, treatment and management of sports injuries and musculoskeletal disorders in national and international level sportspersons and athletes. The Executive Board, Gulf Medical University Academic Health System (GMUAHS) approved the proposal by the College of Pharmacy to establish a Center for Drug Information and Evidence-based Pharmacy during its fifth meeting held on May 8, 2019. The College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University is now responsible for establishing and running the new Center for Drug Information and Evidence-based Pharmacy in the brand new Thumbay University Hospital at Thumbay Medicity, Ajman, UAE. The Center will function in Collaboration with Drug Information Centers in the Medical University of South Carolina and Washington State University, USA.

Thumbay Medicity is a hub of medical education, healthcare, and research. It houses the Gulf Medical University, Thumbay University Hospital, Thumbay Labs, Thumbay Pharmacy, Thumbay Dental Hospital, Thumbay Physical Therapy, and Rehabilitation Hospital. His Highness Sheikh Ammar Ajman, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Ajman Executive Council, visited Thumbay Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Hospital (TPTRH), the largest state-of-the-art rehabilitation hospital in the country, at Thumbay Medicity, Ajman, on 9^th April 2019. The third edition of the Annual Health Awards, jointly organized by DHA and HEALTH Magazine, honors His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council UAE and Ruler of Ajman as the ‘Personality of the Year’ and awards 18 distinguished organizations, 24 outstanding professionals and 11 healthcare trendsetters at the highly successful event in Dubai attended by 1000+ people.

Dubai, March 18, 2019: Winners of the third edition of the Annual Health Awards were awarded at a star-studded gala event at the Grand Hyatt Dubai on Monday, March 18, 2019. Jointly organized by Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and HEALTH Magazine, the event – the region’s biggest and most comprehensive annual awards for the healthcare sector – brought together more than a thousand healthcare leaders and professionals from the UAE’s private and public sectors.

His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council UAE and Ruler of Ajman was honored as the ‘Personality of the Year’ as a tribute to His Highness’ visionary and dynamic leadership, as part of HEALTH Awards 2019.  The citation was presented to His Highness at a separate ceremony, by His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority in the presence of Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Thumbay Group and Publisher of HEALTH Magazine.

His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami, in the presence of Dr. Thumbay Moideen presented the Annual Health Awards 2019 to 42 winners in 24 categories including private and public sector organizations and individuals, as well as 11 legendary dignitaries – for their pioneering roles in shaping the healthcare industry of the region.

The event was also graced by the presence of Emirati internet star Mr. Khalid Al Ameri, former Miss World Manushi Chhillar, Bollywood celebrity Sonu Sood, social media influencers Salama Mohamed, Jumana Khan, Ajmal Khan and Farhana Bodi and Miss World Egypt 2018 Mony Helal.

Noting that the number of nominations received this year had more than doubled compared to the previous edition, he urged increased participation from healthcare professionals and organizations in future editions.

More than 500 people participated in the Walkathon organized by Thumbay Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Hospital (TPTRH) at Thumbay Medicity, Ajman on 14^th February 2018, in support of the people of determination. The theme of the walkathon was ‘keep walking’, emphasizing the importance of encouraging the people of determination to achieve their dreams, at the same time, reminding the society of its responsibility towards them, in bringing them to the mainstream.

The walkathon was conducted under the CSR drive of Thumbay Group, supported by the Thumbay Foundation and Body & Soul Health Club & Spa, the award-winning chain of health clubs owned by Thumbay Group.

Thumbay Medicity  had  the  pleasure  of  hosting  Mrs.  Jayamala  Ramachandran,  Minister for Women  and  Child  Development  and  Empowerment  of  Differently  Abled  &  Senior  Citizens, Government  of  Karnataka,  India,  on  24th  November  2018.  The  minister  was  greeted  at Thumbay Medicity by Dr. Thumbay Moideen – Founder President of Thumbay Group.

Mrs.   Jayamala   Ramachandran   toured   the   advanced   healthcare   and   medical   education facilities  at  Thumbay  Medicity  including  Gulf  Medical  University,  Thumbay  Dental  Hospital, Thumbay Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Hospital etc.

Touring the hospitals and the university, the minister commended Thumbay Medicity for the excellent  facilities  for  healthcare  and  medical  education,  as  she  observed  the  various services at Thumbay Dental Hospital – the first private dental hospital in the country and the largest  academic  dental  hospital  in  the  Middle  East  region’s  private  sector,  as  well  as Thumbay  Physical  Therapy  and  Rehabilitation  Hospital  –  the  biggest  and  most  advanced hospital for physical therapy and rehabilitation. The vision, mission and future directions of Thumbay Group and Gulf Medical University – the region’s leading private medical university, as  well  as  the  University’s  advanced  training  and  teaching  facilities  were  also  presented before the guest. She appreciated Thumbay Group’s efforts in bringing the latest technology and innovation in healthcare and medical education to the region.

Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, the biggest private medical university in the Middle East region celebrated its 20^th anniversary on 5^th November 2018, with a special ceremony attended by Dr. Thumbay Moideen – Founder, President Board of Trustees GMU, Prof. Hossam Hamdy – Chancellor of GMU, Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay – Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group, Vice Provost and Deans of the colleges of the University as well as other staff and students. The celebration was an occasion to reflect on GMU’s achievements till date, at the same time reaffirming the commitment to future directions and aspirations.

Dr. Thumbay Moideen said that GMU’s completion of 20 years marks an important milestone in its pursuit of growth and success. “From humble beginnings as the region’s first private medical University, today, two decades since its inception, GMU stands tall as the region’s only private Academic Health System, delivering futuristic medical education at the same time playing an important role in providing state-of-the-art healthcare and promoting innovative research. The evolution of GMU as one of the most popular destinations of advanced medical education, healthcare and research in the region is the result of dedication and hardwork, not to mention GMU’s philosophy of constant innovation and above all, the Grace of the Almighty. We have received excellent support from the government, throughout this journey,” he said.

Prof. Hossam Hamdy said that GMU has built a unique model in the form of the Gulf Medical University Academic Health System (GMUAHS), showing the world that the future of medical education is ‘systems’ linking education, healthcare and research. “We now have 7 colleges and 26 accredited programs, with many new programs expected to receive accreditation soon.” he said. He added that admissions for the academic year 2018-19 are now open for various courses.

GMU enjoys a robust collaboration with a number of prestigious universities around the world, such as the University of Arizona, Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee – USA, University of Saint Joseph School of Pharmacy in Connecticut, German Heidelberg University, American University in Cairo, University of Ghana, Medical University of Lublin, Tokyo Medical & Dental University, etc., as well as research institutes such as the Gustave Rossi Cancer Research Institute – France. GMU uses the latest technologies like Virtual Patient Learning (VPL), its own simulation program,  in teaching and training students across all majors, to ensure their workplace readiness once they graduate.

Research is an important strategic direction of GMUAHS. The Thumbay Research Institute for Precision Medicine leads research in the field of cancer biology and immunology, with international collaboration with France, Poland and Korea. In terms of advancing healthcare in the UAE and globally, GMU has launched three medical researches: Cancer Immunology and experimental oncology; Tumor genetic instability and immunogenicity; and biomarkers and functional genomics.

GMU attracts students from new countries each year, and the University’s student community is approximately 2000-strong today, hailing from more than 80 countries.
