Vestibular Rehabilitation is a specialized form of Physical Therapy to address dizziness, imbalance, difficulty maintaining clear vision, and functional decline due to a vestibular disorder. It is an exercise-based program primarily designed to reduce vertigo and dizziness, and/or reduce imbalance and fall risk, as well as address any secondary impairments that are a consequence of the vestibular disorder.
Vertigo, giddiness or dizziness could be due to many reasons but it has been shown that certain physiotherapy exercises can help people suffering from Vertigo, giddiness or dizziness. This is known as Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy.
Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy
consists of BPPV Benign paroxysmal positional manoeuvres which is performed by certified Physiotherapist along with other treatment such as,
- Balance exercise
- Functional training
- Self management technique
- Virtual Reality training
- habituation raining
- Fall Prevention Training
As each case is unique, a physiotherapist will need to examine the patient’s case and layout the appropriate exercises. Some of these can and will need to be done alone, although only under the instructions of a therapist. Improper exercises could exacerbate the problem, and there could be a risk of injury, particularly for those who have balancing issues.
